With the first half of the season in the books, a playoff spot secured and a handful of All-Star nods in hand, most members of the Brunswick Surfin' Turfs enjoyed a week's break standing 16-4 at the halfway point before winning their first game of the second half on Sunday 14-6 over the Burlington Sock Pups.

Coach Robbie Jones, Kyle Robitzsch (University of North Georgia), Tristan Hunt (Coker University), Kaden Swaim (Cleveland State CC), Nick Randall, (University of North Georgia) and Austin Long (USC Upstate) all represented the East All-Stars in their 8-1 win on Saturday as the Clayton Clovers hosted the festivities at East Clayton Community Park.

All-Star Game (6/29)

The Turfs all contributed to the East All-Stars' victory with Hunt and Robitzsch turning a 6-4-3 double play. Swaim tallied two hits at the plate and appeared in the second round of the home run derby that took place prior. Randall and Long both tossed scoreless frames to contribute on the hill.

Versus Burlington Sock Pups (6/30)

The Turfs'  offense picked up where it left off after averaging 8.25 runs scored per game in the campaign's first half. Swaim struck a 2-2 curveball down the line to plate Hunt to start the scoring. Swaim later scored on a wild pitch and Brenner Gursky (Brunswick CC) delivered a two-run single to peddle Brunswick to a 4-0 lead in the first.

In the following inning, Swaim scored Hunt again with a second double to extend the lead. Swaim reached six times in the game altogether. Jordan Overton (Iona) launched a two-run blast into left field for his first homer of the summer.

Burlington would chip away in the third and make it 7-4. Chance Jennings (Winthrop) returned to the lineup for the first time in three weeks and picked up an RBI walk, one of three times he reached on the evening. Robitzsch contributed with a fielder's choice to score another run in the third to make it 9-4.

After Lefredick Wooten (Carolina Rays) tossed three scoreless innings, Will Lafferty (Marshall) found the left-centerfield gap for a two-run double. A batter later Gursky picked up a SAC fly to make it 12-6 Surfin' Turfs.

Pinch-hitter Hudson Brannon (Francis Marion University) cracked a solo shot over the wall and Gursky collected a fourth RBI in the game with a base knock to score Robitzsch.

Alex Simmons (USC Union) locked down the last two innings on the hill to complete the 14-6 win for the Turfs.

The Surfin' Turfs improved to 17-4 and are scheduled to play five games next week. The Turfs head north to face the Tarboro River Bandits on Tuesday before hosting the Hope Mills Rockfish on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.
