The Brunswick Surfin’ Turfs took three of four in the first week of their 2024 campaign.

Along with going 3-1, the Turfs won their first two games in Southeastern Division play.

In their first game of the season, after an intrasquad scrimmage was canceled due to

inclement weather, Brunswick welcomed the Carolina Yankees to Founders Field last Thursday

and defeated the Yankees 15-0 after five innings. The Turfs batted around the order in three of

their four innings at the plate, nine different Surfin’ Turfs picked up at least one RBI and Kaden

Swaim (Cleveland CC) hit the team’s first round-tripper on a two-run blast to left field.

Brunswick was defeated in a seven-inning battle with the Rawlings Stars of the BCBL 3-

2 on Friday evening. Rawlings led 2-0 early after a run scored off an error in the second and

Brady Hendrix singled to bring home leadoff hitter Michael Rickert in the first. Swaim knotted the

contest up in the third with a two-run single into the opposite field. The tie would not last for long

as Chris Mullins delivered a one-out RBI single to give the Stars a 3-2 lead. Jayden Lester shut

down the Turf bats from the fourth inning on, giving the three-time BCBL champions a one-run

victory.

The Surfin’ Turfs went north to Jacksonville on Saturday to face the Ospreys in the

team’s inaugural home contest. Over 2,500 fans attended Jack Amyette Park which saw

Brunswick pitching put on a show in a 5-1 Turfs win. Austin Long (USC Upstate commit) and

Andrew Cedano (University of North Georgia) combined to keep Jacksonville scoreless for the

first seven innings. Swaim continued to swing a hot bat at the plate, picking up two more RBI

and going 4-6 at the plate. Brenner Gursky, (Brunswick CC) Chance Jennings (Winthrop

University) and Nick DiSanti (University of Mount Olive) brought in the other three runs for

Brunswick as they passed their first Southeastern Division test of the Summer.

The next team on the schedule for Brunswick was the Hope Mills Rockfish back at

Founders Field, who entered Sunday standing 4-0. The Rockfish started off leading 5-1 halfway

through the game with the help of a three-run first. Brunswick battled back in the fifth courtesy of

a Hudson Brannan (Francis Marion University) two-run single that cut the deficit in half. The

Turfs loaded the bases in the seventh where Jennings and Tristan Hunt (Coker University) both

worked walks to tie the game at five. Swaim came through for a fourth consecutive game,

plating two on a base knock, and gave the Surfin’ Turfs their first lead of the contest. After Hope

Mills evened the game up in the ninth, DiSanti came up in the bottom half of the inning with the

bases juiced and delivered a walk-off liner through the infield.

The Turfs play their next six games at home. They play the Carolina Yankees on June 4

with the first pitch at Founders Field scheduled for 6:00 P.M.
